The KEF RNC130R is a steel rear enclosure (back box) designed for use with 130mm round in-ceiling speakers from the KEF Ci architectural range. Installed during the pre-wiring stage of a new build or renovation project, it creates a sealed acoustic enclosure behind the speaker, preventing sound from transmitting freely into the ceiling void or adjacent room above.
Without a rear enclosure, in-ceiling speakers operate as open-baffle designs, relying on the ceiling void as an untreated acoustic space. This can degrade bass performance and allow sound to travel between rooms through the shared cavity. The RNC130R solves both problems by providing a purpose-built steel housing that seals the speaker within its own controlled volume, improving low-frequency reproduction and significantly reducing unwanted sound bleed.
Compatible with KEF Ci130RR, Ci160RR, and other 130mm round Ci series in-ceiling speakers, the RNC130R is an essential accessory for any professional or domestic installation where acoustic performance and room isolation are priorities. The perforated steel construction allows for cable routing and ventilation while maintaining structural rigidity. Fitting is straightforward and is intended to be completed before the plasterboard ceiling is installed.
