KEF R8a Dolby Atmos Speakers Gloss Black (Pair)

The KEF R8a sits within the R Series, KEF’s performance-focused range that draws on technology developed for the flagship Reference loudspeakers. Designed as a Dolby Atmos enabled module, the R8a can be placed on top of a floorstanding or bookshelf speaker to bounce sound off the ceiling for overhead effects, or wall-mounted using the integrated keyhole fixings to serve as a dedicated surround channel. Sold as a pair, the R8a brings Atmos capability to an R Series system without the need for in-ceiling installation.

Uni-Q Driver Array

At the heart of the R8a is KEF’s Uni-Q driver array, which places a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter concentrically within a 130mm aluminium cone mid/bass driver. This point-source configuration ensures that high and low frequencies radiate from the same acoustic centre, producing a wide, even dispersion pattern that is particularly important for Atmos height channels where the sound must reflect accurately off the ceiling.

Construction

The R8a uses a two-way closed-box design. The sealed enclosure provides a controlled, predictable roll-off that suits its role as a module speaker, where placement on top of another cabinet or against a wall would otherwise compromise a ported design. The crossover is set at 2kHz, handing over cleanly between the aluminium cone driver and the dome tweeter.

Dual-Purpose Mounting

Integrated keyhole slots on the rear panel allow the R8a to be wall-mounted without additional brackets. This dual-purpose design means the same speaker can function as an upward-firing Atmos module when placed on top of a front or surround speaker, or as a conventional surround or rear channel when fixed to the wall at ear height.
