The KEF R7 Meta is the mid-sized floorstanding member of KEF’s R Series, sitting between the compact R5 Meta and the flagship R11 Meta. It combines KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) in a three-way bass reflex cabinet designed to deliver full-range performance in medium to large listening rooms.
12th-Generation Uni-Q with MAT
At the heart of the R7 Meta is KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, which places the 25mm vented aluminium dome tweeter concentrically within a 125mm aluminium cone midrange driver. This coaxial arrangement allows both drivers to radiate from a single point source, creating a wide and even dispersion pattern that enlarges the listening sweet spot across the room.
The tweeter incorporates Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), a complex labyrinthine structure mounted behind the dome that absorbs 99% of unwanted rearward sound energy. By eliminating reflections and resonances within the tweeter assembly, MAT delivers cleaner high-frequency reproduction with reduced distortion.
Bass Performance
Two 165mm (6.5 in.) hybrid aluminium bass drivers handle the low frequencies in the R7 Meta’s three-way configuration. The hybrid aluminium cones are designed for greater driver excursion, producing tight, deep and controlled bass. The bass reflex cabinet includes rear-firing ports and supplied port bungs for tuning bass output to suit the room and placement.
Cabinet Design
The R7 Meta’s cabinet stands 1062mm tall with a 200mm-wide front baffle and 384mm depth, mounted on a sculpted plinth with adjustable spike feet for stability and isolation. The plinth’s design provides a secure footing while allowing fine-tuning of speaker placement on both hard and carpeted floors.
Precision-engineered microfibre grilles feature 1801 individually cut holes per driver, maintaining acoustic transparency when fitted. The grilles attach magnetically for a clean, seamless appearance.
Connectivity
The rear panel features bi-wire/bi-amp compatible binding post terminals, allowing the midrange/treble and bass sections to be driven independently for those who wish to optimise amplification. A single-wire jumper is included for conventional connection. KEF recommends amplifier power between 15 and 250 watts.
Versatility
Equally suited as a stereo pair for dedicated music listening or as front channels in a surround sound system, the R7 Meta pairs naturally with other R Series Meta models including the R2 Meta centre channel and R1 Meta surrounds. The R7 Meta is available in Black Gloss, Titanium Gloss, Walnut and White Gloss finishes.
