KEF R3 Meta Standmount Speakers Black (Pair)

The KEF R3 Meta sits in the middle of KEF’s R Series, slotting between the compact R2 Meta two-way and the floorstanding R5 Meta. It is the only three-way standmount in the range, adding a dedicated 165 mm (6.5″) hybrid aluminium bass driver beneath the 12th-generation Uni-Q array to extend low-frequency output without increasing cabinet height beyond practical standmount proportions.

Uni-Q with MAT

The 12th-generation Uni-Q driver places a 25 mm (1″) vented aluminium-dome tweeter at the acoustic centre of the 125 mm (5″) aluminium-cone midrange. This concentric arrangement means both drivers radiate from a single point source, producing a wide, even dispersion pattern that maintains consistent tonal balance across a broad listening area. The tweeter incorporates KEF’s Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) — a maze-like structure behind the dome that absorbs 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the diaphragm, reducing distortion and improving high-frequency clarity.

Three-Way Bass Reflex Design

Below the Uni-Q array, a dedicated 165 mm (6.5″) hybrid aluminium woofer handles frequencies from 58 Hz up to the 420 Hz crossover point, where it hands over to the Uni-Q midrange. A second crossover at 2,300 Hz transitions from midrange to tweeter. The rear-firing bass reflex port extends low-frequency reach, contributing to the R3 Meta’s rated response of 58 Hz – 28 kHz (±3 dB). Maximum output is 110 dB.

Cabinet & Build

The cabinet measures 423 × 202 × 337 mm (H × W × D) and weighs 12.4 kg per speaker. On the rear panel, custom five-way bi-wire binding posts support both bi-wiring and bi-amping configurations. Rubber isolation feet are included.

Amplifier Matching

KEF rate the R3 Meta for amplifiers delivering 15–180 W into 4 ohms nominal impedance (3.2 ohms minimum). Sensitivity is 87 dB (2.83 V / 1 m), placing it comfortably within reach of mid-range integrated amplifiers while rewarding higher-quality amplification with greater dynamic headroom.
