KEF's Over-Ear Wireless Headphones
The KEF Mu7 is a pair of noise-cancelling over-ear wireless headphones for listeners who want hi-fi sound on the move. It is KEF's over-ear headphone model, bringing the brand's loudspeaker tuning expertise to a portable package that combines an aluminium frame, Smart Active Noise Cancellation and high-resolution Bluetooth audio. The design is by Ross Lovegrove, continuing a collaboration with KEF that began with the Muon loudspeakers and the Muo Bluetooth speaker.
40mm Driver with KEF Tuning
Inside each closed-back earcup sits a 40mm full-range dynamic driver, designed and tuned by KEF's own engineering team. The acoustics are custom tuned to give consistent voicing on the move, with a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz and the clarity and detail that KEF's hi-fi listeners expect.
Wireless Connectivity and High-Resolution Audio
Bluetooth 5.1 provides a stable wireless connection to both iOS and Android devices, while support for the Qualcomm aptX HD codec enables high-resolution playback at up to 24-bit/48kHz. SBC, AAC and standard aptX are also supported for broad compatibility, and the Bluetooth range is up to 10 metres. A 3.5mm input allows wired listening from a phone or a dedicated headphone DAC/amplifier.
Smart Active Noise Cancellation and Battery Life
Smart Active Noise Cancellation uses multiple filters to capture the noise around the headphones and applies an algorithm that targets the frequencies relevant to the environment, adjusting automatically rather than applying a one-size-fits-all profile. Three modes are available: ANC on, Smart ANC and ANC off. Clear Voice Capture (cVc) isolates your voice on calls. With Bluetooth and ANC both active, the 1100mAh lithium-ion battery delivers up to 40 hours of playback, and fast charging gives 8 hours of use from 15 minutes at the socket.
Comfort, Control and Build
The precision-engineered aluminium frame is strong and lightweight, with a headband clamping force set to give a good acoustic seal without excess pressure. Breathable leatherette memory foam ear cushions mould to the head, improving passive isolation and bass response. A capacitive touchpad on the right earcup handles calls, track skipping, volume and voice assistant with taps and swipes. The earcups swivel to lie flat for storage, and the headphones are supplied with a carrying case, USB-C charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable and flight adapter. Finished in Silver Grey.
