KEF LS60 Wireless Floorstanding Speakers Carbon Black (Pair)

The KEF LS60 Wireless is the floorstanding model in KEF's LS Wireless Collection, joining the LS50 Wireless II and LSX II as the company's first wireless tower stereo system and, in KEF's own words, the most advanced active loudspeaker system to leave its assembly line. Launched to mark KEF's 60th anniversary, it brings together Single Apparent Source technology adapted from the flagship Blade loudspeaker, a specially designed 12th Generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology, Uni-Core force-cancelling bass drivers and the W2 wireless platform in a sealed cabinet only 130mm wide. Single Apparent Source and 12th Generation Uni-Q

Until the LS60 Wireless, KEF's Single Apparent Source configuration had only appeared on its flagship passive loudspeakers. By placing the bass drivers equidistant around the Uni-Q array, the design approaches the acoustic ideal of a point source where low, mid and high frequencies radiate from a single point, giving more precise imaging and accurate sound across a wider listening area. At its heart is a 12th Generation Uni-Q with MAT driver array: a 19mm vented aluminium dome tweeter sits in the centre of a 100mm aluminium midrange cone, with refinements including a tweeter gap damper and a new low-diffraction surround. Metamaterial Absorption Technology behind the tweeter absorbs 99% of the unwanted sound from the rear of the dome, removing the distortion it would otherwise cause.

Uni-Core Force-Cancelling Bass

The slim closed-box cabinet and the close driver spacing demanded by Single Apparent Source called for a new approach to bass. Each speaker carries four 135mm Uni-Core drivers, the technology first seen in KEF's KC62 subwoofer, arranged as two back-to-back pairs in a force-cancelling configuration so that cabinet vibration is practically eliminated. KEF's P-Flex surround and Smart Distortion Control Technology keep the low frequencies as balanced and detailed as the output of the Uni-Q array, with a frequency response of 31Hz to 24kHz (plus or minus 3dB) and a frequency range extending down to 26Hz at -6dB.

Amplification and Music Integrity Engine

Each speaker has three dedicated amplifiers: 500W Class D for the bass drivers, 100W Class D for the midrange and 100W Class AB for the tweeter, giving 700W per speaker and 1400W for the system, with a maximum output of 111dB at one metre. The Music Integrity Engine, KEF's suite of bespoke DSP algorithms, ties the Single Apparent Source configuration and the Uni-Core drivers together and adds low-frequency phase correction for precise timing. The KEF Connect app handles set-up and offers normal and expert sound modes for tailoring the system to the room.

Streaming and Connectivity

The LS60 Wireless runs on the W2 wireless platform introduced on the LS50 Wireless II. It supports Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast and Bluetooth 5.0, is Roon Ready and UPnP compatible, and streams directly from Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and QPlay, with Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, internet radio and podcasts available through the KEF Connect app. Network playback supports PCM up to 24-bit/384kHz along with MQA decoding and DSD. The primary speaker provides HDMI eARC for a TV, TOSLINK optical, digital coaxial and analogue RCA inputs plus RJ45 network and interspeaker Ethernet, and both speakers carry an RCA subwoofer output for adding one or two KEF subwoofers. The two speakers connect to each other wirelessly at 24-bit/96kHz or over the supplied interspeaker cable at 24-bit/192kHz. The system also integrates with Elan, RTi, Crestron Home, Savant and Control4 home automation platforms.

Design and Finishes

Designed by Michael Young with the KEF product design team, each speaker measures 1090 x 212 x 394mm on its plinth (1042 x 130 x 321mm without), and the pair weighs 62.4kg. The rear panel and plinth incorporate a cooling arrangement so the built-in amplification can run without overheating, and optional floor spikes are included. The LS60 Wireless is offered in four matte finishes with tone-matched drive units: Titanium Grey, Mineral White, Royal Blue and Carbon Black. Carbon Black, Titanium Grey and Mineral White are intended to blend into an interior, while Royal Blue is the statement option.
