The KEF Kube 10 MIE is the mid-sized model in KEF's four-strong Kube subwoofer range, sitting between the compact Kube 8 MIE and the larger Kube 12 MIE. A sealed cabinet houses a 250mm (10in.) front-firing driver paired with a 300W RMS Class D amplifier, giving a frequency response down to 24Hz and a maximum output of 111dB.
Music Integrity Engine
The Music Integrity Engine (MIE) is KEF's suite of proprietary, in-house written DSP (Digital Signal Processing) algorithms, tailored to each model in the range so that every component works in harmony. Within it, iBX Intelligent Bass Extension analyses the input signal and makes multitudes of tiny adjustments every second, allowing the subwoofer to play louder and remain dynamic at any listening level. KEF drew on the development of the LS60 Wireless and KC62 for this generation, improving accuracy especially at high output levels and lowering distortion further.
250mm Long-Throw Driver
The Kube 10 MIE uses a single 250mm (10in.) front-firing long-throw drive unit with a large cone area and high excursion, an approach KEF describes as producing higher output at lower frequencies and creating a sensation of direct force into the room. The sealed alignment is chosen for greater accuracy, and it also allows the Kube to be installed inside a cabinet. The matching 300W RMS Class D amplifier is optimally designed for the driver and the available acoustic volume, and runs efficiently and cool.
Versatile Connectivity and Placement
Connection options cover RCA phono sockets and speaker level inputs, so the Kube 10 MIE integrates with almost any amplifier or AV receiver. KEF SmartConnect automatically detects whether one or two cables are being used and adjusts gain accordingly, so no Y adaptor is required and it does not matter which RCA input a single cable is plugged into. A variable low-pass filter covers 40Hz to 140Hz at a rate of 24dB per octave, with an LFE setting for use with the .1 channel of a home cinema receiver or processor, and a phase control offers 0 and 180 degree positions. Three room placement EQ presets, selected on the rear panel for in-room, wall or cabinet, and corner positions, keep performance consistent wherever the subwoofer sits. An expansion port accepts the optional KW1 wireless subwoofer adapter, allowing placement without running a signal cable.
Intelligent Power Management
Three power modes are selected using the rear panel switch. Auto Wake Up powers the subwoofer on when it detects an audio signal and turns it off after 20 minutes of inactivity; Always On keeps it ready to play and out of standby; and 12V trigger switches the Kube on automatically with a connected amplifier or receiver. Power requirements are 100 to 240V, 50/60Hz, with a rated consumption of 300VA. In the box are the subwoofer, a power cord, a Euroblock speaker level connector, and user manual and warranty information.
