The Coda W is a complete hi-fi system in a pair of compact active speakers. Connect a turntable, a television, a laptop or a CD player, or stream from a phone over Bluetooth, and there is no separate amplifier to buy or find room for. It is the entry point to KEF's active speaker range, sitting below the LSX II LT and LSX II, and it revives the Coda name that KEF used for its most accessible speakers.

12th Generation Uni-Q Driver Array

At the heart of each speaker is KEF's 12th Generation Uni-Q Driver Array, which places a 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter at the acoustic centre of a 130 mm magnesium and aluminium alloy cone. Because both drivers radiate from the same point, sound disperses evenly through the room and the stereo image holds together across a wide range of listening positions, not just the central seat.

Each speaker carries its own Class D amplification: 70 W for the bass and midrange cone and 30 W for the tweeter, a combined 100 W per speaker and 200 W across the pair. Maximum output is 102 dB at one metre, giving ample headroom for both attentive listening and background use.

Wireless and Wired Connectivity

The primary speaker handles all source connections and feeds the secondary speaker over a wired USB-C interspeaker link, with every source resampled to 96 kHz/24-bit PCM for the connection. A 3 m interspeaker cable is included, and an optional 8 m C-Link cable allows wider placement. Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless supports streaming from smartphones and computers at up to CD quality. A USB-C input accepts hi-res audio directly from a computer at up to 192 kHz/24-bit. The HDMI ARC input allows a single-cable connection to a television, while an optical input handles digital sources up to 96 kHz/24-bit. A built-in moving magnet phono preamplifier accepts a turntable directly, alongside a standard RCA line-level input for sources with their own output stage. A dedicated RCA subwoofer output allows the system to be extended with a compatible KEF subwoofer.

Music Integrity Engine

Signal processing is handled by KEF's Music Integrity Engine, a proprietary suite of DSP algorithms tuned specifically for the Coda W to preserve detail and accuracy from the Uni-Q driver. Top-panel buttons give direct access to power, source selection and volume, and the KEF Connect app adds EQ presets, speaker settings and firmware updates.

Design and Finish

The cabinet is a clean, rectilinear design with a ribbed front baffle, measuring 285 x 168 x 268 mm per speaker; the pair weighs 11.3 kg. KEF offers the Coda W in five finishes: Dark Titanium, Moss Green, Nickel Grey, Vintage Burgundy and Midnight Blue, and this listing is for Dark Titanium. The optional SQ1 floor stands raise the speakers to listening height where shelf placement is not practical.
