The KEF Ci50R sits at the entry point of KEF's Ci Series of architectural speakers, designed for installations where discretion is paramount. At just 80mm in external diameter, it is no larger than a standard 50mm low-voltage downlighter — making it virtually invisible once flush-mounted into a ceiling. Despite its compact dimensions, the Ci50R houses a 50mm full-range driver that delivers impressively vocal, well-balanced audio for its size.
Design & Installation
The Ci50R is engineered for quick, straightforward installation using KEF’s lighting-style spring-clip fitting mechanism. It requires a 65mm cutout (or 70mm when used with the optional back can) and accommodates ceiling thicknesses from 6mm to 20mm. The mounting depth is a shallow 50mm without the back can, rising to 90mm with it fitted. This makes the Ci50R suitable for plastered ceilings, suspended ceiling tiles, and plasterboard partitions alike.
Each speaker is supplied with four interchangeable bezels — White, Chrome, Brass and Brushed Steel — allowing the finish to be matched to surrounding downlighters or interior décor without purchasing separate accessories.
Applications
The Ci50R is best suited to background music and speech reinforcement in spaces where hi-fi performance is required from an unobtrusive source. Typical applications include multi-room audio systems, lounges, bars, boutiques, boardrooms, offices, bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes. For larger spaces or where greater bass extension is needed, KEF’s larger Ci Series models such as the Ci100QR or Ci130QR offer increased driver size and output.
When mounted open-backed, the Ci50R achieves a frequency response of 125Hz–20kHz. Adding the optional sealed back can raises the low-frequency limit to 170Hz but provides a more controlled, consistent sound in environments where open ceiling voids would otherwise colour the output.
