KEF Ci-R Series Extreme Home Theatre
The Ci3160RLM-THX sits in KEF's Ci-R Series, the Extreme Home Theatre range developed for demanding custom installation projects. Positioned as the narrower sibling of the Ci5160RLM-THX, the Ci3160 shares the same architectural philosophy but with a more compact rectangular footprint, making it the preferred choice for installations where speaker placement space is limited without compromising on performance or THX Ultra certification.
Driver Configuration
At the heart of the Ci3160RLM-THX is KEF's 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, which positions a 25mm vented aluminium dome tweeter concentrically within a 160mm midrange cone. This coaxial arrangement creates a single acoustic point source, producing an expanded and even sweet spot across the listening area. The tweeter incorporates Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), an intricate labyrinthine structure that absorbs 99% of unwanted sound travelling rearward through the driver assembly, eliminating distortion and colouration at the source.
Low-frequency reproduction is handled by two 160mm hybrid aluminium bass drivers mounted in a vertical array beneath the Uni-Q unit. The drivers are mounted to a precision-machined 5.5mm aluminium baffle that eliminates cabinet resonance, ensuring the drivers reproduce only the intended signal. A built-in high-pass filter, adjustable between 35Hz and 80Hz, allows the speaker to integrate cleanly with a dedicated subwoofer in a full home cinema system.
THX Ultra Certification
The Ci3160RLM-THX holds THX Ultra certification, the highest tier of THX's professional standards for home cinema performance. THX Ultra certification guarantees that the speaker meets the acoustic output and fidelity requirements necessary to reproduce studio reference levels in larger listening rooms of 56 cubic metres or above. The certification process involves independent testing to verify frequency response, distortion, dynamic range, and consistent off-axis coverage, giving installers and integrators assurance of proven, predictable performance in real-world installations.
