The KEF Ci200QS sits within KEF’s Q Series of architectural speakers, offering a premium in-ceiling solution built around the company’s signature Uni-Q driver technology. Designed for flush-mount installations where a square format is preferred, it is suitable for both high-fidelity domestic listening and premium commercial environments.
Uni-Q Driver Array
At the heart of the Ci200QS is KEF’s proprietary Uni-Q driver array — a coincident point-source design that places a 25mm vented aluminium dome tweeter in the acoustic centre of the 200mm low-frequency woofer. Because the high and low frequencies originate from the same point, the acoustic lobing problems common to conventional two-way designs are virtually eliminated, delivering smooth and consistent sound across a wide listening area. The result is that fewer speakers are needed to achieve even coverage in a given space.
Tangerine Waveguide
The tweeter is fitted with KEF’s Tangerine Waveguide, engineered to further enhance high-frequency dispersion. Combined with the Uni-Q array, it yields a nominal coverage angle of 115°, ensuring that off-axis listeners experience the same tonal balance as those seated directly below the speaker.
Construction & Installation
The Ci200QS is constructed using weather-resistant components: a proprietary plating and powder-coating process protects the chassis, while the Ultra-Thin Bezel (UTB) and magnetic grille are treated with a UV-protective finish. The speaker carries IP64 certification, confirming that splashing water has no harmful effect on the assembly — making it suitable for bathrooms, covered outdoor areas, and humid commercial spaces.
The ABS bezel has been engineered to be as narrow as possible (no more than 5mm in width) while maintaining structural rigidity, so the installed speaker presents a discreet, minimal profile. The magnetic grille attaches securely and can be painted to match any décor. Gold-plated spring-loaded binding posts simplify cable termination.
The open-back design is straightforward to install: once the wiring is run and the 233.9 × 233.9mm cut-out is made, the speaker clips into place. An optional rough-in frame (RIF200S) and rear enclosure (RNC200S) are available for new-build installations or where a controlled rear volume is required — KEF recommends an ideal rear volume of 60 litres (minimum 35 litres) when using the enclosure.
