The Ci200QL sits within KEF’s Ci-Q Series of architectural speakers, a range designed for permanent installation in ceilings and walls where high-fidelity performance must be delivered from a flush-mounted, visually discreet enclosure. The rectangular form factor distinguishes the Ci200QL from its round sibling, the Ci200QR, and is intended for installations where a rectangular cut-out is preferred or where the speaker must align with rectangular ceiling tiles or architectural features.
Uni-Q Driver Array
At the heart of the Ci200QL is KEF’s proprietary Uni-Q driver array, a coincident point-source design that places a 25mm vented aluminium dome tweeter in the acoustic centre of the 200mm bass/midrange cone. Because both high and low frequencies radiate from the same point, the acoustic lobing problems common to conventional two-way designs are virtually eliminated. The result is wide, even dispersion with consistent tonal balance across the listening area — KEF describes this as “sit-anywhere” performance, meaning fewer speakers are needed to achieve smooth coverage in a given space.
Tangerine Waveguide
The tweeter incorporates KEF’s Tangerine Waveguide, an engineered structure that enhances high-frequency dispersion. The waveguide contributes to a nominal coverage angle of 115°, ensuring that treble energy is distributed broadly rather than concentrated in a narrow beam directly below the speaker.
Construction and Installation
The Ci200QL is constructed using weather-resistant components. A proprietary plating and powder-coating process provides UV protection across the baffle, bezel, and grille, making the speaker suitable for demanding environments such as conservatories, covered outdoor areas, or commercial venues. The speaker carries IP64 certification, confirming that splashing water will have no harmful effect on the assembly.
The Ultra-Thin Bezel (UTB) is moulded from ABS and engineered to be no more than 5mm wide, minimising the visible footprint once installed. The magnetic grille attaches securely via a powerful magnetic circuit and can be painted to match any décor — a paint shield is included to protect the driver during finishing. Installation requires a rectangular cut-out of 330 × 234mm, and the speaker mounts into ceiling or wall surfaces between 6mm and 37mm thick with a mounting depth of 99.8mm from the surface.
An optional rough-in frame (RIF200L) is available for new-build installations where the ceiling is not yet finished, and an optional rear enclosure (RNC200L) provides a sealed volume behind the driver. KEF specifies an ideal rear volume of 60 litres and a minimum of 35 litres for open-back installations.
