The KEF Ci200CR is a round in-ceiling speaker from KEF's C Series, designed for architectural installations where the speaker must disappear into the ceiling while delivering full-range audio. The C Series sits below KEF's reference-grade Ci-R and THX-certified models, offering a straightforward two-way design with an 200mm (8") main driver and a 25mm tweeter in a flush-mount chassis.
Driver Complement
The Ci200CR pairs a 200mm bass/midrange driver with a 25mm tweeter, crossing over at 2.8 kHz. This configuration delivers a frequency response of 45 Hz to 20 kHz, providing genuine bass extension from a ceiling-mounted source without the need for a separate subwoofer in smaller rooms. Sensitivity is rated at 90 dB, making the Ci200CR easy to drive from modest amplifiers or multi-room distribution systems.
Installation
The round chassis requires a 240mm ceiling cut-out and a mounting depth of just 97.2mm behind the ceiling surface, making it compatible with standard joist depths. The thin-bezel grille sits almost flush with the ceiling plane once installed, minimising visual intrusion. The speaker presents an 8-ohm nominal impedance and handles up to 125 W, allowing it to be driven comfortably from both dedicated hi-fi amplifiers and commercial-grade multi-zone systems.
Applications
The Ci200CR is suited to multi-room audio, home cinema surround channels, and background music installations. Its 200mm driver provides more bass weight than the smaller Ci130CR and Ci160CR models in the range, making it the better choice for rooms where the in-ceiling speaker is the primary sound source rather than a supplement to floorstanding or bookshelf speakers.
