KEF Ci200CL In-Ceiling Speaker (Single)

The KEF Ci200CL is a rectangular in-ceiling speaker from KEF’s C Series — the company’s architectural range designed for permanent installation in ceilings and walls. The C Series sits within KEF’s wider Ci (Custom Installation) lineup, which spans from the entry-level C Series through to the performance-oriented Q Series and the reference-grade R Series. The Ci200CL uses a 200mm (8″) bass driver paired with a 25mm tweeter, configured as a two-way system with a crossover point at 2.8kHz.

Driver Technology

At the heart of the Ci200CL is KEF’s Asymmetrical Tweeter Island, which positions the tweeter off-centre within the bass driver’s cone. This asymmetric placement reduces diffraction effects at the tweeter’s operating frequencies, resulting in cleaner high-frequency reproduction and improved off-axis response. The tweeter incorporates KEF’s Tangerine Waveguide — a distinctive slotted waveguide element that controls dispersion characteristics, providing wide and even sound distribution across the listening area while also serving as a protective element for the tweeter dome.

Installation

The Ci200CL uses a rectangular form factor with a cut-out of 334 × 238mm and a mounting depth of 95.9mm from the ceiling surface. The Ultra Thin Bezel (UTB) design minimises the visible rim around the speaker grille, allowing it to sit as flush as possible with the ceiling. At 2.0kg, the speaker is lightweight enough for straightforward ceiling installation, and KEF describe the Ci range as fast and easy to install once the wire is run and the ceiling aperture is cut.

Performance

Sensitivity is rated at 90dB (2.83V/1m), and the speaker presents a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms. Frequency response extends from 45Hz to 20kHz (±6dB, open-backed). KEF recommends amplifier power between 10W and 125W, giving flexibility to drive the Ci200CL from anything from a modest multi-room amplifier to a dedicated power amplifier in a home cinema system.
