The KEF Ci160CSds is a premium dual stereo in-ceiling speaker from KEF's C Series architectural range, engineered for installations where only a single speaker position is available yet full stereo reproduction is required. Its dual stereo design accepts both left and right channel inputs through a single assembly, delivering a complete stereo soundtrack from one ceiling location — ideal for bathrooms, corridors, utility rooms, and other compact spaces where installing a conventional speaker pair is impractical.
Dual Stereo Driver Array
At the heart of the Ci160CSds is a 160mm (6.5") dual voice coil woofer paired with an asymmetrical tweeter island housing two 19mm (0.75") aluminium dome tweeters. The dual voice coil arrangement allows the single woofer to reproduce both left and right low-frequency signals independently, while the two discrete tweeters handle the corresponding high-frequency channels. KEF's asymmetrical tweeter island positions each tweeter at an optimised angle to create separation between the stereo channels and improve dispersion across a wider listening area.
Tangerine Waveguide Technology
Each tweeter is fitted with KEF's proprietary Tangerine Waveguide — a precision-engineered acoustic lens that serves a dual purpose: it protects the delicate aluminium dome from physical damage during installation and everyday use, and it controls the dispersion pattern to achieve 120 degrees of consistent coverage. This wide, even dispersion ensures that the stereo image remains coherent whether the listener is directly beneath the speaker or moving through the room.
Weather Resistance & IP64 Certification
The Ci160CSds is constructed entirely from moisture-resistant components and has passed official IEC testing to achieve IP64 certification, confirming that splashing water has no harmful effect on the assembly. The square Ultra-Thin Bezel and magnetic grille are treated with a UV-resistant protective finish using a proprietary plating and powder coating process, making the speaker suitable for installation in bathrooms, covered outdoor areas, and other environments where humidity and moisture are a concern.
Installation
The speaker uses KEF's screw-down clamping system for secure mounting, with a cut-out requirement of just 194 × 194mm and a mounting depth of 84.5mm from the ceiling surface. The Ultra-Thin Bezel (UTB) is engineered from ABS with a bezel width of less than 5mm, maintaining a discreet, premium appearance once installed. The magnetic grille attaches securely and can be painted to match any ceiling finish. A covered crossover circuit adds structural rigidity to the assembly while protecting the electrical components. All KEF 160mm square speakers share the same cut-out dimensions, allowing flexible component selection across the range. An optional rough-in frame (RIF160S) and rear enclosure (RNC160S) are available for new-build installations, with KEF recommending an ideal rear volume of 35 litres for optimum low-frequency performance.
