KEF Ci160CR In-Ceiling Speaker (Single)

The KEF Ci160CR is a flush-mount in-ceiling speaker from KEF's Ci C Series, the company's architectural range designed for discreet, high-fidelity installations in living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, and commercial environments. The C Series sits below KEF's Ci R Series (which uses the Uni-Q coincident driver array) and focuses on delivering clean, wide-coverage sound from a compact, low-profile chassis that disappears into the ceiling.

Driver Technology

At the heart of the Ci160CR is a 160mm (6.5") extended-response bass driver paired with a 19mm aluminium dome tweeter. The tweeter is mounted on KEF's asymmetrical tweeter island — a design that offsets the tweeter from the centre of the bass cone to reduce high-frequency diffraction and align the off-axis power response of both drivers. The result is smoother, more consistent sound across a wider listening area than a conventional concentric layout would achieve at this price point.

The tweeter is fitted with KEF's proprietary tangerine waveguide, a contoured phase plug that both protects the dome and shapes its dispersion pattern to achieve 120 degrees of coverage. This wide dispersion makes the Ci160CR particularly effective in rooms where listeners are not always seated directly below the speaker.

Construction & Installation

The Ci160CR uses an Ultra Thin Bezel (UTB) surround engineered from ABS, keeping the visible rim as narrow as possible once installed. Both the bezel and the magnetic grille are paintable, allowing the speaker to blend with any ceiling finish. The grille attaches via a magnetic circuit for tool-free removal and re-fitting.

The crossover is fully enclosed in a covered circuit, protecting the electrical components from dust and moisture ingress. A screw-down clamping system secures the speaker into the ceiling from the front — no rear access is required. The universal 196mm cut-out diameter is shared across all KEF 160mm round in-ceiling models, making it straightforward to swap or upgrade within the range without modifying the ceiling aperture.

At just 85mm mounting depth, the Ci160CR fits comfortably between standard ceiling joists and is shallow enough for most retrofit installations where joist depth is limited.
