The KEF Ci130QS is a square-format in-ceiling speaker from KEF’s Ci Series, sitting alongside the round Ci130QR within the Q-level tier of KEF’s architectural range. Above it, the Ci160 and Ci200 models offer larger drivers for greater bass extension and output; the Ci130QS is designed for rooms where a compact 130mm driver delivers sufficient coverage without demanding a large ceiling cut-out.
Uni-Q Driver Array
At the heart of the Ci130QS is KEF’s Uni-Q driver array, which places the 19mm aluminium dome tweeter at the acoustic centre of the 130mm bass/midrange cone. This concentric arrangement means both drivers radiate from a single point source, producing a wide, even dispersion pattern throughout the listening area. KEF’s Tangerine Waveguide sits ahead of the tweeter dome, controlling high-frequency dispersion to achieve a consistent 125-degree coverage angle.
Square Bezel Design
The Ci130QS uses an ultra-thin ABS bezel engineered for minimal visual intrusion. The square format suits rooms with angular architectural features — soffits, coffered ceilings, and rectilinear lighting grids — where a round grille would look out of place. The magnetic grille attaches without visible fixings and can be painted to match the surrounding ceiling finish.
Installation
The speaker requires a 158 × 158mm square cut-out and a minimum mounting depth of 77.9mm from the ceiling surface. It accommodates ceiling thicknesses from 6mm to 24mm. KEF’s dog-leg clamp mechanism secures the speaker from above, allowing installation in under two minutes once the cable is run. An optional rough-in frame (RIF130S) is available for new-build installations where the ceiling is not yet finished, and a rear enclosure (RNC130S) provides acoustic isolation when mounting into a shared ceiling void.
IP64 Certification
The Ci130QS carries an IP64 rating, having passed official IEC testing to confirm that splashing water has no harmful effect on the assembly. This makes it suitable for installation in bathrooms, kitchens, and other humid environments where moisture resistance is required.
