The Emotiva BasX A7 is the seven-channel model in the BasX power amplifier range, delivering 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms with all seven channels driven simultaneously from a single chassis. The BasX series spans from the A1 monoblock through to the eleven-channel A11, covering every common surround configuration. Above the BasX series, Emotiva's XPA Gen3 range offers higher power reserves for more demanding installations.
Amplifier Topology & Power Supply
Each of the seven channels uses a Class A/B output stage fed by a linear power supply built around an oversized toroidal transformer. With all seven channels driven, the A7 delivers 90 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 125 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms. With two channels driven, output rises to 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 175 watts per channel into 4 ohms.
Performance
Total harmonic distortion plus noise measures less than 0.02% (A-weighted, at rated power), and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 115 dB referenced to rated power into 8 ohms (A-weighted). The damping factor exceeds 500 into 8 ohms. Power bandwidth spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz within ±0.02 dB, while the broadband frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 80 kHz (+0/−1.8 dB).
Connectivity
Every channel provides an unbalanced RCA input. Input impedance is 27 kilohms, with a gain of 29 dB and an input sensitivity of 1.2 V for rated power into 8 ohms. Speaker outputs use audiophile-grade five-way binding posts that accept banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wire. A 12V trigger input and output allow the A7 to power on and off automatically with a compatible processor or preamplifier.
Build & Installation
The A7 operates on either 115 VAC or 230 VAC at 50/60 Hz with automatic voltage detection, making it suitable for use in the UK without modification. The chassis measures 432 × 102 × 394 mm (17 × 4 × 15.5 inches) excluding connectors, with a weight of 13.6 kg (30 lbs).
