DALI Oberon 5 Floorstanding Speakers White (Pair)

The DALI OBERON 5 is a compact floorstanding speaker from the passive OBERON series, sitting between the standmount OBERON 3 and the larger OBERON 7. With its slim cabinet and two 5.25-inch woofers, it is designed for small to medium listening rooms where a full-range floorstander is wanted without the visual or acoustic dominance of a larger model.

Driver Technology

The OBERON 5 uses two 5.25-inch low-loss woofers with DALI’s wood fibre cone construction. The cone material is a blend of fine-grain paper pulp reinforced with wood fibres, chosen for its combination of low mass and high stiffness for a responsive midrange and controlled bass output. Each woofer incorporates DALI’s patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) disc in the magnet motor’s iron pole-piece, which has very high magnetic conductivity but extremely low electrical conductivity. This greatly reduces the hysteresis and eddy currents that cause distortion and colouration in conventional iron pole-pieces, lowering third-order distortion for a cleaner midrange and improved detail retrieval.

The high-frequency driver is a 29mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter developed specifically for the OBERON series. The oversized membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, and the front plate geometry was developed alongside DALI’s OPTICON and RUBICON tweeters for extended frequency response, wide dispersion and low colouration. The two-way crossover divides at 2,400 Hz.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is built from high-density, CNC-machined MDF dressed in high-grade vinyl, with internal bracing throughout to reduce panel resonance. Bass loading is provided by a rear-firing reflex port tuned to 43 Hz, extending the low-frequency response to a stated 39 Hz. The slim 162mm-wide cabinet sits on an elegantly shaped aluminium base for stability, and DALI recommends placing the speakers 15 to 80 cm from the rear wall and firing straight ahead rather than toed-in.

System Integration

The OBERON 5 is voiced to integrate with other models in the OBERON range, making it suitable as the main front pair in a multi-channel home cinema system alongside the OBERON Vokal centre speaker and OBERON On-Wall or OBERON 1 surround speakers. A nominal impedance of 6 ohms and sensitivity of 88 dB (2.83V/1m) means it is well suited to amplifiers rated between 30 and 150 watts per channel. A single-wire connection terminal is fitted at the rear.
