The DALI SUB E-9 F is the more compact of DALI’s two E-series subwoofers, sitting below the larger SUB E-12 F. Where the E-12 F uses a 12-inch driver for greater low-frequency extension, the E-9 F pairs a 9-inch aluminium cone woofer with the same 170W RMS Class D amplifier, delivering a subwoofer that integrates easily into smaller rooms and systems built around DALI’s Oberon, Spektor, and Fazon loudspeakers.
Driver and Cabinet Construction
The 9-inch woofer uses a pure aluminium cone that is both stiff and lightweight, giving the E-9 F a faster transient response than is typical for subwoofers in this price class. The cone dispenses with a conventional dust cap, instead using a design that promotes piston-like movement across the full excursion range and keeps distortion to a minimum. A heavy magnet motor system drives a four-layer, long-stroke voice coil, allowing the driver to move substantial volumes of air without audible strain.
The sealed MDF cabinet is raised 30mm from the floor by four oversized polymer-based spikes. This decouples the enclosure from the surface beneath it, reducing transmitted vibration and improving clarity at higher output levels.
Amplification
A built-in Class D amplifier delivers 170W RMS continuously, with 220W available on transient peaks for demanding film soundtracks and dynamic orchestral passages. The amplifier draws a maximum of 250W from the mains. DALI describe the topology as highly linear, prioritising accuracy over raw output — the E-9 F is designed to integrate musically with a stereo or surround system rather than simply adding volume.
Controls and Connectivity
Rear-panel controls include a continuously variable crossover adjustable from 40 to 120 Hz, a volume control, and a phase switch. Two input options are provided: a stereo RCA pair with low-pass filtering for connection to a stereo amplifier’s pre-out or tape-out, and a dedicated LFE (mono) input for use with an AV receiver’s subwoofer output. The input impedance is 25 kΩ.
Placement
DALI recommend corner placement for maximum bass output and even distribution. The compact footprint — just 288mm wide and 311mm deep — gives more flexibility than larger subwoofers, and the satin finish blends discreetly into a living room setting.
