The Black Rhodium Jive sits at the entry point of Black Rhodium's speaker cable range, offering a direct upgrade path from generic OFC cable. Above it in the lineup sit the Twist and Tango, which add more complex geometries and heavier gauge conductors, but the Jive establishes the core Black Rhodium design principles at an accessible price point.
Construction
Each of the two cores uses 30 strands of 0.25mm diameter high-purity tinned copper, giving a total conductor cross-section of 1.5mm² per core. Tinned copper is chosen for its resistance to oxidation, which helps maintain consistent electrical performance over time. The 1.5mm² cross-section makes the Jive suitable for higher-power systems, longer cable runs, and systems used for music with strong low-frequency content.
Silicone Rubber Insulation
The conductors are insulated in silicone rubber with a 0.6mm wall thickness. Silicone rubber offers low dielectric loss compared to PVC, reducing time-smearing effects that can blur the leading edges and natural decays in music. The result is a cleaner, more accurate portrayal of transient detail.
Directional Wiring
Black Rhodium applies direction-controlled quality assurance during the manufacturing process. Each cable is wound in a consistent direction, which the company states delivers superior stereo imaging and lower background noise. The cable is manufactured in England.
Installation
The Jive has a smooth white outer jacket with an overall diameter of 8mm, making it flexible and unobtrusive for domestic installations. It is sold by the metre in unterminated form. Terminated versions with gold-plated 4mm banana plugs are available separately.
