The AudioQuest Sydney sits within the Bridges & Falls series of analogue interconnects — a step above the Rivers series models such as Mackenzie and Yukon. Sydney is the most affordable cable in the AudioQuest range to feature Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, a high-purity, low-oxide copper with an exceptionally smooth surface that minimises distortion caused by grain boundaries in the conductor metal.
Conductor & Geometry
Sydney uses Solid PSC+ conductors throughout. Solid-core construction eliminates the inter-strand electromagnetic interactions that occur in stranded cables, where multiple thin wires running in parallel create eddy currents at their contact points. The cable employs an Asymmetrical Double-Balanced geometry, engineered specifically for single-ended (RCA) applications. This design provides a lower-impedance ground path relative to the signal conductor, which enhances dynamic contrast and clarity compared to symmetrical single-path designs.
Dielectric & Noise Dissipation
Both conductors are insulated with Polyethylene Air-Tube dielectric. By surrounding the conductor with an air-filled tube rather than a solid plastic sleeve, the insulation minimises energy absorption — a source of time-domain smearing that can reduce the sense of focus in the reproduced signal. Surrounding the conductors, a Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System uses alternating layers of metal and carbon-loaded synthetic material to absorb and reflect radio-frequency interference before it reaches the ground conductor, preventing distortion of the reference ground plane.
Termination
The RCA plugs are machined from pure Purple Copper and finished with AudioQuest’s Direct-Silver plating process, in which the copper body is submerged in high-purity silver to produce a thick, uniform silver layer without the intermediate nickel barrier found on conventional plated plugs. The conductors are cold-welded to the plugs using controlled pressure rather than solder, avoiding the introduction of a dissimilar metal junction in the signal path. Stamped ground shells are used to prioritise sonic clarity.
