The AudioQuest Sure Grip BFA Silver sits within AudioQuest’s SureGrip 100 connector range — the entry point to the company’s banana plug lineup, offering Beryllium Copper construction and direct-silver plating at a price that makes proper cable termination accessible. Above it sits the SureGrip 300 series, which uses a heavier-duty barrel for thicker cable gauges.
Beryllium Copper Construction
Where most aftermarket banana plugs use phosphor bronze as the base metal, AudioQuest specifies Beryllium Copper for the SureGrip 100. Beryllium Copper is both stronger and more electrically conductive than phosphor bronze, resulting in a plug that grips speaker binding posts more securely whilst maintaining lower contact resistance. The direct-silver plating is applied straight to the Beryllium Copper body with no intermediary nickel layer — a deliberate choice, since nickel introduces a ferromagnetic barrier between the signal conductor and the connector that can degrade audio performance.
Cold-Welded Connection
Each plug uses AudioQuest’s cold-weld termination method. A supplied hex key tightens an internal grub screw that compresses the stripped speaker cable directly against the Beryllium Copper body, creating a gas-tight mechanical bond without solder. Soldered connections introduce a tin–lead alloy into the signal path; the cold-weld approach avoids this entirely, keeping the connection pure metal-to-metal. The SureGrip 100 accepts speaker cables up to 9 AWG (approximately 6.6 mm²), which covers the vast majority of domestic speaker cable runs.
BFA-Compliant Format
The plugs conform to the BFA (British Federation of Audio) standard — a 4 mm banana format featuring a wavy spring contact that grips the inside of a binding post socket. BFA-type bananas are the standard termination for speaker cables in the UK market. Each plug is colour-coded with a non-metallic ABS sleeve labelled either SPEAKER or AMP in red or black, making it straightforward to identify amplifier-end and speaker-end connections at a glance.
What’s in the Pack
This pack contains four plugs — two labelled SPEAKER (red) and two labelled AMP (black) — plus the hex key tool required for cold-weld termination. Four plugs are sufficient to terminate one end of a stereo speaker cable pair (left positive, left negative, right positive, right negative). To terminate both ends of a stereo run, two packs are required.
