The AudioQuest Pearl sits at the entry point of AudioQuest’s Elements Series USB cable range, offering a meaningful upgrade over generic USB cables for connecting computers, streamers, and servers to USB DACs and other USB-B audio devices. Above the Pearl in AudioQuest’s USB hierarchy sits the Forest, which upgrades to 0.5% silver conductors, while the Pearl delivers the core AudioQuest cable engineering principles at a more accessible price point.
Conductor & Dielectric
Pearl uses solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors rather than the stranded copper found in standard USB cables. Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion — the interference that occurs when individual strands within a conductor make and break contact with one another. LGC copper has fewer oxides, fewer impurities, and fewer grain boundaries than standard OFHC copper, providing a cleaner signal path.
The conductors are insulated with Hard-Cell Foam (HCF), a nitrogen-injected dielectric that creates air pockets within the insulation material. Because the nitrogen-filled cells do not absorb energy in the way that solid plastic insulation does, HCF reduces dielectric absorption while maintaining stable impedance across the cable’s length.
Noise Management
AudioQuest’s Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation technology provides RF shielding that goes beyond conventional approaches. Rather than simply draining intercepted noise to the component’s ground plane — where it can cause ground-plane distortion — the metal layer absorbs and reflects radio-frequency energy before it reaches the ground connection. This “shields the shield” approach keeps RF interference out of the signal path entirely.
The Pearl also features Direction-Controlled Conductors, which exploit the natural grain structure of drawn metal to manage the flow of induced noise. The arrows printed on the connectors indicate the controlled directionality and non-symmetrical shield attachment, ensuring that noise is drained away from the signal rather than towards it.
Build & Connectors
Both the USB-A and USB-B connectors are gold-plated for reliable, low-resistance contact. The cable is terminated with clearly marked “Pearl” branding and USB logos on each connector housing.
