Description

The AudioQuest JitterBug is a compact USB noise filter designed to sit between a computer and a USB DAC, reducing the noise and parasitic resonances that degrade digital audio playback. Computing devices generate significant electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI) on their USB buses, and this pollution travels directly into connected audio equipment. The JitterBug addresses this at source with dual discrete noise-dissipation circuits that work on both the data and power lines simultaneously.

Dual-Circuit Noise Dissipation

JitterBug’s filtering operates on two fronts. The data-line circuit minimises parasitic resonances created by the computer and USB bus, optimised to remove noise above the USB 2.0 frequency specification. The power-line (Vbus) circuit reduces noise currents and prevents EMI and RFI from contaminating the connected DAC or cable. Together, these dual circuits measurably reduce jitter and packet errors — in some cases, packet errors are completely eliminated.

Series and Parallel Operation

The JitterBug can be used in two ways. In series, it sits in-line between the computer’s USB port and the USB cable running to a DAC, filtering the signal path directly. In parallel, a second JitterBug plugged into an adjacent USB port pulls additional RF noise from the shared power bus, providing a cumulative improvement. AudioQuest recommend experimenting with both configurations to find the best result for a given system.

Broad Compatibility

Beyond traditional computer-to-DAC setups, the JitterBug is compatible with USB-enabled network devices such as routers, NAS drives, and network streamers. It also works with mobile devices for use in the home or in the car. No drivers, software, or external power are required — the JitterBug is entirely plug-and-play.
