The Forest OptiLink sits in the middle of AudioQuest’s optical digital cable range, above the entry-level Pearl and below the Cinnamon. Where standard Toslink cables use a single large-core plastic fibre, the Forest OptiLink uses a bundle of much smaller fibres within its 1.0 mm connector. Each smaller fibre limits the input angle of light, producing a tighter time-envelope at the receiving end and reducing the timing errors (jitter) that degrade the final analogue audio signal.
Fibre and Construction
AudioQuest’s low-dispersion, high-purity polymer fibre is the core of the Forest OptiLink’s design. By constraining light to narrower fibres, the cable reduces the dispersion that accumulates over longer runs — a particular concern with optical S/PDIF, where timing accuracy directly affects audio quality. The fibre ends are precision-polished to ensure efficient light transfer at each junction, minimising signal loss at the connector interface.
Connectors and Included Adaptor
The cable terminates with full-size Toslink connectors at each end. A 3.5 mm mini-Toslink adaptor is included in the box, allowing connection to devices that use the smaller optical port — commonly found on laptops, portable DACs, and some compact hi-fi components.
Applications
The Forest OptiLink is suited to any S/PDIF optical connection: TV to soundbar, CD transport to DAC, games console to AV receiver, or streamer to amplifier. It is available in seven lengths from 0.75 m to 16 m, making it practical for both short rack connections and longer room-spanning runs.
