The Ideal Companion to the Anthem STR Preamplifier
The Anthem STR Power Amplifier is a high-current, two-channel stereo power amplifier engineered in Canada to partner the STR Preamplifier in a dedicated pre-power system. Drawing on more than three decades of amplifier design experience at Paradigm's Advanced Research Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, the STR Power Amplifier delivers 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms, offering the headroom and dynamic authority that demanding loudspeakers require.
High-Power Class A/B Topology
Operating in Class A/B, the STR Power Amplifier employs a dual-mono circuit layout with fully independent power supplies for each channel. Twin toroidal transformers and a large reservoir of filter capacitance provide the sustained current delivery needed to drive low-impedance or insensitive loudspeakers with ease. Power output doubles as impedance halves, underlining the amplifier's ability to control real-world speaker loads without strain.
Balanced and Single-Ended Connectivity
Both XLR balanced and RCA single-ended analogue inputs are provided on the rear panel. When a single-ended connection is detected, the balanced input is automatically disabled to prevent interference, keeping the signal path clean regardless of source equipment. A 12V trigger input allows the STR Power Amplifier to power up automatically alongside compatible preamplifiers and processors. A USB port on the rear panel supports firmware updates.
Precision VU Meters and Front Panel Controls
The front panel is dominated by a pair of illuminated analogue power meters calibrated in watts, giving a real-time indication of output level for each channel. Controls for viewing mode and meter dimming are grouped alongside the power button, allowing the display to be adjusted to suit the listening environment. The minimalist fascia, finished in deep black, is designed to sit cleanly alongside the matching STR Preamplifier.
Built to Last in Canada
Designed and manufactured by Paradigm Electronics in Canada, the STR Power Amplifier is built to exacting tolerances with a focus on long-term reliability. The chassis is heavily braced to minimise vibration, and internal heat management is handled by an array of external heatsink fins running across the top surface. At 27.3 kg and measuring 432 x 172 x 470 mm, it is a substantial, purpose-built component intended for a permanent position in a high-performance two-channel system.
