The Anthem MRX 540 is the entry point to Anthem's MRX series of AV receivers, sitting below the seven-channel MRX 740 and the flagship eleven-channel MRX 1140. Built on the same platform as its larger siblings, the MRX 540 delivers five channels of Class A/B amplification at 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, with 7.2-channel pre-amplifier processing for system expansion via external power amplifiers.
Amplification & Processing
At its core, the MRX 540 uses Class A/B amplification across all five channels, each rated at 100 watts continuous into 8 ohms. The 7.2-channel pre-amplifier outputs allow the addition of external amplifiers for larger speaker configurations, enabling Dolby Atmos height channels or additional surround zones beyond the five built-in amplifier channels. A 32-bit/768 kHz AKM AK4458VN DAC handles digital-to-analogue conversion across all channels.
Immersive Audio & Video
The MRX 540 decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, and is IMAX Enhanced certified. Video processing supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), and the BT.2020 colour gamut, with 4K/60Hz passthrough at full 4:4:4 chroma subsampling via 18.2 Gbps HDMI 2.0b connections. Seven HDMI inputs and two outputs (including eARC) provide connectivity for a complete home cinema system, with Zone 2 HDMI output for a second room.
ARC Genesis Room Correction
Anthem's ARC Genesis room correction system is included with a calibrated measurement microphone. ARC Genesis analyses the acoustic characteristics of the listening room and applies correction filters to optimise frequency response, timing, and bass management. Four storable profiles allow different calibration presets for varying room configurations or listening preferences. The system is configured and managed through a dedicated desktop application rather than the receiver's on-screen menus.
Streaming & Connectivity
Built-in streaming support includes Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, and Bluetooth v4.2 for wireless audio. Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections provide network access for streaming from local NAS devices and online services. The receiver features a web-based user interface accessible from any phone, tablet, or laptop on the same network, offering full control of settings and configuration without the need for a dedicated app. IP and serial control interfaces ensure compatibility with third-party home automation platforms including Control4, Savant, Crestron, RTI, URC, and ELAN.
Design
The MRX 540 shares the refined industrial design introduced across the current Anthem range, with a large graphic display dominating the left half of the front panel and a single large control dial on the right. The minimalist fascia is a deliberate departure from the busier layouts of previous Anthem receiver generations.
