The Acoustic Energy AE320 MK2 is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker in the revamped AE300 Series. A complete redesign of its predecessor, the AE320 MK2 incorporates driver technology and cabinet construction derived from the company's premium Corinium project, bringing reference-level engineering to a more accessible price point.
Driver Technology
The AE320 MK2 employs a three-way configuration with a newly developed 29mm soft-dome fabric tweeter derived from the Corinium flagship. This is paired with a dedicated 120mm paper and coconut-husk hybrid cone midrange driver and dual 140mm paper and coconut-husk bass drivers. The paper and coconut-husk composite delivers a smooth, natural response with warmth and clarity, while the extended copper pole shield lowers midrange distortion. A non-conducting voice coil former enhances bass response.
Cabinet Construction
For the first time at this price point, the AE320 MK2 features constrained-layer RSC™ (Resonance Suppression Composite) cabinets. The 18mm MDF panels are bonded with a bitumen damping layer, significantly reducing cabinet radiation and allowing the drive units to perform at their best. The cabinet incorporates a slot-shaped bass reflex port on the lower rear panel and a circular port tuned to the midrange section on the upper rear, optimising airflow and minimising turbulence. The base is fitted with adjustable M8 aluminium floor spikes for stability.
Crossover & Performance
The three-way crossover is set at 240Hz and 2.8kHz, dedicating each driver to its optimal frequency band. With a sensitivity of 92dB, power handling of 200W, and a peak SPL of 118dB, the AE320 MK2 delivers substantial dynamic headroom suited to medium and large listening rooms. The frequency response extends from 30Hz to 29kHz.
Design & Finish
Moving away from the high-gloss finishes of the original AE320, the MK2 adopts a modern silk-touch matte material with colour-coordinated trims and magnetically attached slim cloth grilles. Available in Matte Black, Matte White, and Walnut veneer.
In the Range
The AE320 MK2 sits at the top of the AE300 Series, above the AE309 MK2 two-way floorstander and the AE300 MK2 bookshelf speaker. Where the AE309 MK2 uses a single bass-midrange driver, the AE320 MK2 adds a dedicated midrange and a second bass driver for greater low-end extension and dynamic capability. The AE307 MK2 on-wall speaker and AE308 subwoofer complete the series for surround-sound systems.
