Sitting above the compact Evo 5.1 in Wharfedale’s latest speaker range, the Evo 5.2 is a large 3-way bookshelf speaker that brings genuine full-range performance to a standmount design. Building on the Evo 4 series with revised drivers, new damping technologies and an evolved cabinet, the 5.2 borrows engineering directly from Wharfedale’s flagship Elysian line — including the AMT tweeter platform — while keeping the price firmly accessible.
AMT Tweeter & Dedicated Dome Midrange
The 35 × 70 mm Air Motion Transformer at the top of the baffle is developed from the Elysian project. Its pleated diaphragm moves air by squeezing and expanding rather than pistonic motion, shifting four times the volume of a conventional dome tweeter for lower distortion and finer treble detail. Below it, a dedicated 50 mm soft-dome midrange driver handles the vocal band exclusively, reproducing singers and mid-frequency instruments with a transparency that a shared mid/bass driver cannot match.
Kevlar Bass Driver & SLPP Cabinet
Low frequencies are handled by a 165 mm woven Kevlar cone woofer, chosen for its combination of stiffness and internal damping. The 5 Series introduces Silentweave and ResoFrame dampers to the driver mounting, absorbing residual vibration for a cleaner bass response. Cabinet air is exhausted through a three-sided Slot-Loaded Profiled Port (SLPP) that distributes airflow equally to the left, right and rear, reducing port turbulence and making the 5.2 less sensitive to wall proximity than conventional rear-ported designs.
Low-Resonance Cabinet
The 27.2-litre enclosure uses a sandwich construction of different materials to push internal resonances well below the audible band. Smoothly contoured edges reduce baffle-edge diffraction, improving stereo imaging. The result is a speaker that delivers genuine scale — with bass extension down to 38 Hz (−6 dB) — from a cabinet that remains practical for shelf or stand placement at 497 × 260 × 350 mm.
Designed & Engineered in the UK
Wharfedale’s engineering team in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire develops the Evo 5 range, continuing a tradition of British loudspeaker design stretching back to 1932. The Evo 5.2 is available in four finishes: Black, Lunar Grey, Walnut and White, with matching Evo 5 speaker stands available separately.
