The Wharfedale DX-3 HCP is a compact 5.1 home cinema speaker package that draws on the engineering of Wharfedale’s acclaimed Diamond 12 series. As the successor to the multi-award-winning DX-2, the DX-3 package comprises four satellite speakers, a dedicated centre channel, and an active subwoofer — all designed to deliver immersive surround sound without dominating the room.
Satellite Speakers
Each satellite is a two-way design pairing a 75mm woven polypropylene bass/mid driver with a 19mm silk dome tweeter, crossed over at 2.8kHz. The combination delivers a frequency response of 100Hz–22kHz (±3dB) with a sensitivity of 86dB (2.83V @ 1m). Rated at 4Ω nominal impedance with a 3.6Ω minimum, the satellites handle between 25W and 100W of amplifier power. At just 190 × 120 × 122mm (H × W × D) and 2kg each, they are compact enough for shelf or wall placement without sacrificing the full-range sound that larger satellite designs struggle to match.
Centre Channel
The horizontal centre speaker uses twin 75mm woven polypropylene bass/mid drivers flanking a 19mm silk dome tweeter in an aperiodic layout, crossed over at 2.6kHz. This configuration extends the frequency response down to 80Hz–22kHz (±3dB) with bass extension to 70Hz (−6dB) and a sensitivity of 87dB. The twin-driver design spreads dialogue and vocal clarity across a wider listening area, tying sound convincingly to the screen — particularly beneficial with larger televisions or projector setups.
Subwoofer
The active subwoofer is built around a 200mm (8-inch) woven polypropylene driver powered by a built-in amplifier rated at 70W continuous and 150W peak, delivering a maximum output of 105dB at 1m. A variable low-pass crossover (40Hz–150Hz) lets you blend the bass seamlessly with the satellite speakers. Practical features include phase inversion for flexible placement, auto on/off for convenience, and both stereo RCA line-in and a dedicated LFE input for direct connection to an AV receiver’s subwoofer output.
