The Diamond 12 3Di sits within Wharfedale's updated Diamond 12i Series, providing dedicated height-channel duties for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X home cinema systems. Engineered to mount on the wall and angle sound downward, the 3Di adds the overhead dimension that modern object-based surround formats demand, while remaining a tonal match for the rest of the Diamond 12i family.
Two-way wedge enclosure
Each cabinet is a compact, wedge-shaped closed-box system that can be wall-mounted or shelf-placed at the front, side or rear of the room. The angled top baffle directs the drive units into the listening area to fire reflected sound from the ceiling, while the keyhole bracket and rubber feet on the rear allow flexible installation. The stone grey painted side panels combine with the matching matt-finished front and top to give the speaker a discreet, modern look that blends with the rest of the Diamond 12i range.
Cone, dome and crossover
A 100mm advanced polypropylene mid-bass cone is paired with a 25mm woven textile dome tweeter through a Linkwitz-Riley crossover at 3kHz. The cone material is light and well-damped for clean transient response, while the soft dome's flat front plate and minimal waveguide extend high-frequency dispersion for a smooth treble even in off-axis seating positions. Air-core inductors and carefully matched components in the crossover preserve detail and phase coherence between drivers.
Cabinet construction
The closed-box enclosure uses Wharfedale's multi-layered sandwich panel construction with internal spot bracing to suppress resonance. Acoustically tested adhesives between layers and computer-modelled bracing reduce vibration without transferring it across the cabinet walls, supporting clean reproduction during demanding film soundtracks.
Setup and partnering
Sensitivity is rated at 82dB and nominal impedance is 8 ohms compatible (4.3 ohm minimum), with a recommended amplifier power range of 20W to 100W. Frequency response is quoted as 110Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), making the 3Di best deployed alongside a capable subwoofer and Atmos-enabled AV receiver. The pair partners directly with floorstanders, bookshelf models, and centre channel speakers from the Diamond 12i Series for a fully timbre-matched immersive system.
