The Wharfedale Aura CS is the dedicated centre channel speaker in the Aura series, a range that draws direct inspiration from Wharfedale's flagship Elysian loudspeakers in its technologies, materials, and standards of finish. Positioned at the heart of a home cinema system, the Aura CS delivers dialogue and sound effects with the same AMT tweeter and woven glass-fibre cone technology found across the Aura family, ensuring a seamless, cohesive soundstage from front to rear.
AMT Tweeter
The Aura CS is equipped with Wharfedale's Air Motion Transformer (AMT) high-frequency driver, a 27 x 90mm transducer whose folded diaphragm moves air in a distinctive squeezing motion rather than as a conventional piston. This approach results in exceptionally low diaphragm mass, minimal resonance, and outstanding transient accuracy. The AMT delivers wide-bandwidth reproduction with low distortion and a sense of effortless speed and detail that conventional dome tweeters find difficult to match.
Woven Glass-Fibre Bass Drivers
Two 130mm (5-inch) bass drivers use a proprietary woven glass-fibre matrix diaphragm, a material chosen for its ideal combination of stiffness, low mass, and internal damping. The voice coils operate within high-flux magnetic systems with copper-clad pole pieces to reduce eddy currents and inductance. Each driver is mounted on a die-cast aluminium chassis, secured to the cabinet with six high-tensile bolts, maintaining structural rigidity for accurate transient reproduction. Rubber trim rings at the chassis-to-cabinet junction suppress junction-point resonances.
Bass Reflex Alignment
The Aura CS uses a bass reflex enclosure tuned to extend low-frequency output to 56Hz (+/-3dB), with useful output reaching down to 45Hz at -6dB. The cabinet is designed for horizontal placement beneath or above a television or projection screen, with the driver array and port aligned to match the acoustic centres of accompanying Aura bookshelf and floorstanding speakers for a smooth, consistent front soundstage.
Build and Finish
The Aura CS cabinet is supplied in a hi-gloss Walnut finish, with the same attention to surface quality applied across the Aura range. The enclosure is engineered for rigidity, with internal bracing and high-density construction to minimise resonance. Bi-wire/bi-amp capable terminals allow flexible connection to AV receivers and multi-channel amplifiers. Nominal impedance of 6 ohms makes the Aura CS compatible with the majority of AV receivers.
