The Album
Recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City and produced by Teo Macero, Time Out is noted for its pioneering use of unconventional time signatures for jazz. Its best known pieces, "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo à la Turk", sit alongside "Strange Meadow Lark", "Three To Get Ready", "Kathy's Waltz", "Everybody's Jumpin'" and "Pick Up Sticks".
The record peaked at number two on the Billboard albums chart and became the first jazz album to sell one million copies, while its standout single "Take Five" was the first jazz single to sell over one million copies.
