The Cure - Disintegration [180g, Gatefold, 2010 Remaster] (2LP) Vinyl

Disintegration is the eighth studio album by The Cure, released on 2 May 1989 by Fiction Records. Written as Robert Smith approached the age of thirty and recoiled from the band's pop success, it returned the group to the introspective gothic rock of their early 1980s records and became their defining work.

It was the band's highest charting album to that point, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart and number 12 on the US Billboard 200, and it remains their highest selling record with more than four million copies sold worldwide. "Lovesong" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 116 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Album

Smith wrote the material alone before the band convened to demo 32 songs, of which 12 reached the final record. Production and engineering were shared by Smith and David M. Allen, with further engineering by Richard Sullivan and Roy Spong. The line up was Robert Smith on guitars, vocals, keyboards and Bass VI, Simon Gallup on bass and keyboards, Porl Thompson on guitars, Boris Williams on drums and percussion, Roger O'Donnell on keyboards, and Lol Tolhurst.

This Pressing

This is the double LP reissue on Fiction and Polydor, catalogue number 532 456-3, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and manufactured in the EU. The audio was digitally remastered from the original master tapes by Robert Smith, with the final master produced at The Soundmasters in London.

The 1989 vinyl release carried only 10 tracks. Spreading the album across four sides allows "Homesick" and "Last Dance" to appear on LP as part of the running order, so this pressing carries the complete 12 song album. Printed lyric bags are included with both discs.
