The Ruark RS1 is a compact active subwoofer that brings genuine low-end weight to Ruark's smaller systems, and to any speaker pairing that benefits from extended bass. Finished in real Rich Walnut wood veneer with a woven Dark Slate fabric grille, it carries the same heritage cabinet detailing as the rest of the Ruark range.
Ruark developed the RS1 in response to demand from customers wanting a properly matched companion sub for the award-winning MR1 Bluetooth speakers. It also makes a natural partner for the R-Series and the R610 streaming console, lifting smaller speakers into full-range territory without dominating the room.
At the heart of the RS1 is a 170mm long-throw bass driver paired with a 170mm passive radiator in a tuned cabinet, driven by a 100W nominal Class D amplifier. The result is a typical in-room response of 35Hz to 180Hz - deep, controlled bass that stays musical rather than thunderous. A soft-clip protection filter keeps the driver safe at high levels.
Setup is straightforward. A single mono RCA input accepts up to 2.3 Vrms from any pre-out, sub-out or line-level source, and rear-panel controls cover adjustable crossover (50-180Hz), level and a 180-degree phase switch. Auto-standby and auto wake-up mean the subwoofer powers itself down when no signal is detected and comes back to life as soon as music plays.
Built in Ruark's traditional cabinet style with rounded corners, real wood veneer top and base trim and machined alloy feet, the RS1 is designed to sit happily next to a piece of furniture rather than being hidden away. The Rich Walnut version is paired with a dark slate fabric grille for a warm, classic look.
