The R-CD100 is the dedicated CD transport for Ruark’s 100 Series music systems. Rather than functioning as a standalone CD player with its own DAC and analogue outputs, the R-CD100 passes digital audio data via USB to the host unit, where conversion is handled by the 100 Series product’s own high-quality DAC circuitry. This ensures CD playback shares the same signal path and sonic character as streaming, internet radio, and other sources.
Transport and Signal Path
The R-CD100 employs a precision slot-loading mechanism supporting CD, CD-R, and CD-RW discs, delivering CD-DA audio at 16-bit/44.1 kHz PCM. The digital signal is output via a plug-and-play USB 2.0 connection through a USB-C socket. When connected to a compatible 100 Series unit, CD automatically appears as an additional source on the system’s full-colour display, with track information shown alongside the host’s existing sources. A 0.5 m braided USB-C signal cable is included in the box.
Power and Installation
The unit is entirely bus-powered from the host’s USB port at 5 V, 1 A maximum (5 W), requiring no separate mains connection or power supply. Controls are limited to an eject button and a power LED on the front panel, with source selection and playback managed entirely through the host unit’s controls and remote.
Enclosure and Build
The R-CD100’s cabinet follows the 100 Series design language, pairing a precision machined anodised aluminium top plate with a hand-crafted fused walnut veneer case. The enclosure is acoustically isolated with a rigid, low-resonance construction designed to minimise external vibration that could affect disc tracking. With a footprint little larger than a CD case itself, the R-CD100 sits neatly alongside or on top of its host unit.
Compatibility
The R-CD100 is designed exclusively for the Ruark 100 Series and is compatible with the R410, R610, and R810. It automatically integrates with each, adding CD as a selectable source alongside the system’s streaming, internet radio, DAB, and FM inputs. It will not function with non-Ruark devices or older Ruark models outside the 100 Series.
