The MRx is Ruark Audio’s connected wireless speaker, combining network streaming, Bluetooth, and analogue inputs in a single handcrafted cabinet. Sitting alongside the R2 and R7 in Ruark’s connected audio range, the MRx is designed as a versatile standalone speaker for any room — and as a building block for multi-room systems linking up to five compatible units through the UNDOK app.
Drivers and Amplification
Two 75mm custom full-range polypropylene cone drivers with neodymium magnet systems are mounted into a tuned bass reflex cabinet, driven by a 20W Class AB amplifier. A Σ-Δ 24-bit stereo DAC handles digital-to-analogue conversion. Built-in signal processing includes bass, treble, and loudness controls alongside a 3D audio enhancement mode. The frequency response spans 55Hz to 20kHz.
Streaming and Wireless
The MRx connects to a home network via Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n with WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security) or the rear-panel RJ45 Ethernet socket. Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL, and Deezer run natively on the device, alongside Internet Radio. UPnP/DLNA streaming from networked media servers is supported with format compatibility including MP3 (up to 48kHz/320kbps), AAC (up to 96kHz/320kbps), FLAC (up to 24-bit/48kHz), WAV (up to 16-bit/48kHz or 24-bit/44.1kHz), and WMA (up to 44.1kHz/320kbps). Note that FLAC files are not supported in multi-room mode.
Bluetooth V4.0 with aptX, AAC, SBC, and A2DP codecs provides wireless audio from smartphones and computers. Multi-room distribution links up to five MRx or compatible Ruark products (including the R2 Mk3 and R7 Mk3) per group, all controlled through the UNDOK app for iOS and Android.
Inputs and Versatility
A combined 3.5mm jack serves as both an analogue line input (maximum 2.3Vrms) and an optical digital input — a 3.5mm optical adapter is included in the box. A rear-panel USB 2.0 port supports playback from USB storage and provides 5V/1A (5W) device charging.
The MRx can be used in either landscape or portrait orientation, mounted on its included anodised aluminium stand. Two UNC 1/4-inch threaded inserts at 59mm centres on the rear panel provide wall-mounting capability. A four-position stereo mode switch configures the unit as left, right, mono, or stereo paired, allowing two MRx units to operate as a dedicated stereo pair with selectable left/right assignment.
