The Rotel RC-1590 is Rotel’s reference stereo preamplifier, designed as the control centre for a high-performance two-channel system. Engineered to partner the RB-1590 power amplifier, it combines an exceptionally low-noise analogue signal path with a fully isolated digital section, delivering a level of flexibility and sonic refinement that places it at the top of Rotel’s 15 Series lineup.
Power Supply & Circuit Design
At the heart of the RC-1590 are two Rotel custom-built toroidal transformers, each dedicated to either the analogue or digital circuitry. This physical and electrical isolation eliminates cross-contamination between signal domains. The power supply uses individual analogue and digital regulator circuits alongside custom-made slit-foil capacitors, chosen for their very quick charge and discharge times and low signal loss. The result is a THD figure below 0.002% across the full 20 Hz–20 kHz bandwidth and a signal-to-noise ratio of 112 dB on the line inputs.
Digital-to-Analogue Conversion
Digital inputs feed a premium AKM 32-bit/768 kHz DAC, fully isolated from the analogue stages. The rear-panel PC-USB input accepts signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz and supports DSD playback via DoP, while three coaxial and three optical digital inputs handle LPCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Coaxial and optical digital outputs are also provided for passing through to an external recorder or processor.
Analogue Connectivity
The analogue input stage uses very low noise circuitry throughout. A high-performance moving magnet phono stage with 47 kΩ input impedance caters for turntable users, while dedicated CD, AUX, and Tuner RCA inputs cover line-level sources. Balanced XLR inputs are included for studios or longer cable runs where common-mode noise rejection is beneficial. Outputs include balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA, a fixed-volume line output for recording, and dual mono subwoofer outputs.
Wireless & USB
Internal Bluetooth with aptX codec support connects wirelessly to phones and tablets via a rear-mounted external antenna. A front-panel USB input provides Apple device connectivity with 2.1 A charging, while the rear PC-USB input offers a direct digital path from a computer at up to 24-bit/192 kHz with DSD support.
Volume Control & Features
Volume is managed by a Texas Instruments precision volume control IC, ensuring accurate channel balance at all listening levels. Tone controls offer ±10 dB adjustment at 100 Hz and 10 kHz. A front-mounted 3.5 mm headphone output provides a private listening option. The dimmable display and configurable automatic power-off function add day-to-day convenience, while two 12-volt trigger outputs allow synchronised power control of partnered components.
System Integration
For custom installation, the RC-1590 supports RS232 and IP control, enabling full integration with home automation systems. Rotel Link connectivity allows communication with other compatible Rotel components, and internet-based software updates ensure the unit remains current. An external IR remote input and the included remote control complete the control options.
