Rotel RB-1582 MKII Power Amplifier Silver

The Rotel RB-1582 MkII is a stereo power amplifier delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 323 watts into 4 ohms. Sitting in the upper tier of Rotel’s 15 Series, it is designed to partner pre-amplifiers such as the RC-1572 and provide the current and headroom required by demanding loudspeaker loads.

Amplifier Topology

The RB-1582 MkII uses a dual mono block layout, with left and right channels constructed as independent amplifier sections sharing a single chassis. Each channel’s output stage employs ten high-current bipolar transistors, arranged in a discrete Class AB configuration. All grounding is terminated in a star pattern on a copper grounding plate to minimise signal-to-noise degradation and inter-channel crosstalk.

Power Supply

At the heart of the amplifier is an oversized toroidal transformer paired with 60,000µF of storage capacity in British-made slit foil capacitors. Slit foil capacitors are chosen for their ability to charge and discharge rapidly, maintaining signal fidelity during transient peaks — whether orchestral crescendos or sustained low-frequency impacts. The power supply feeds into the discrete output stage through independently regulated rails for each channel.

Connectivity

The RB-1582 MkII provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, allowing it to integrate into systems using either connection standard. Input impedance is 100kΩ on the XLR inputs and 12kΩ on the RCA inputs. Input sensitivity is 3.0V (XLR) and 1.9V (RCA). The amplifier supports speaker loads down to 4 ohms minimum.

Construction

Built on a 3U-height chassis measuring 431 × 144 × 407mm and weighing 17.6kg, the RB-1582 MkII is a substantial unit. The front panel is finished in brushed aluminium with a single power indicator and Rotel’s signature ventilation grille. It is available in Black and Silver finishes.
