Rotel RAP-1580 AV Receiver Silver

The Rotel RAP-1580 sits at the top of Rotel’s home cinema range as their flagship surround amplified processor. Combining a seven-channel Class AB power amplifier with a full surround processor in a single chassis, the RAP-1580 delivers 7 x 100 watts per channel into 8Ω with all channels driven simultaneously, rising to 150 watts per channel with two channels driven. It supports Dolby Atmos with 7.1.4 processing, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio, making it a comprehensive solution for immersive home theatre without the need for separate components.

Amplification

At the heart of the RAP-1580 is a powerful Class AB amplifier section anchored by a massive in-house toroidal transformer. Rotel manufactures their own transformers, allowing precise control over the power supply’s characteristics. The amplifier achieves a damping factor of 230 at 1kHz into 8Ω and total harmonic distortion below 0.03% across the full 20Hz–20kHz bandwidth. Signal-to-noise ratio measures 100dB via the analogue bypass path and 96dB through digital inputs, both IHF A-weighted.

Digital Audio Processing

Six Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analogue converters handle decoding duties across all channels. These audiophile-grade DACs are supported by premium-grade audio components in circuits tuned by Rotel’s acoustic engineering team in the UK. The RAP-1580 accepts LPCM audio up to 192kHz/24-bit resolution, ensuring high-resolution digital sources are reproduced with full fidelity. A 10-channel parametric equaliser is built in for room acoustics optimisation.

Connectivity

Video connectivity centres on eight HDMI 2.0a inputs with two HDMI outputs, all supporting 4K/UHD passthrough with Deep Colour up to 36-bit. Three of the HDMI inputs and both outputs are HDCP 2.2 compliant for protected 4K content. An additional front-panel HDMI input provides convenient temporary connection with full 4K passthrough.

Analogue inputs include a moving-magnet phono stage with 47kΩ impedance, a balanced XLR input, dedicated CD and tuner inputs, an auxiliary input, and a multichannel analogue input for legacy surround sources. Digital audio inputs include a PC-USB connection supporting 24-bit/192kHz audio and integrated aptX Bluetooth for wireless streaming. A front-panel USB port provides device charging at 2.1A.

Control and Integration

A seven-inch TFT display on the front panel provides direct access to all audio and video parameters without needing to turn on a television or projector — particularly useful in installations where the equipment rack is located separately from the display. The RAP-1580 includes a full suite of custom integration features and supports two independent zones.
