The Rotel A12 MKII sits in the middle of Rotel’s integrated amplifier range, positioned above the entry-level A11 Tribute and below the more powerful A14 MKII. It delivers 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms (120W into 4 ohms) from a Class AB output stage, powered by Rotel’s in-house manufactured oversized toroidal transformer. The MKII revision introduced a new digital processor and interface chipset, power supply refinements, upgraded coupling capacitors, and circuit board layout isolation techniques designed to lower the noise floor and reduce distortion.
Digital Section
A premium Texas Instruments 32-bit DAC handles all digital sources. Four S/PDIF digital inputs (two optical, two coaxial) accept LPCM signals up to 24-bit/192kHz, while the PC-USB input supports up to 32-bit/384kHz in USB Audio Class 2 mode (24-bit/96kHz in Class 1). Bluetooth wireless streaming with aptX codec support provides convenient access to music from smartphones and tablets. The A12 MKII is certified Roon Tested, and its PC-USB input supports MQA decoding for high-resolution streaming from Tidal and other MQA-enabled services.
Analogue Section
On the analogue side, the A12 MKII provides a built-in moving magnet phono stage with 47kΩ impedance, four line-level RCA inputs (Phono, Tuner, CD, AUX), and a pre-out for connection to an external power amplifier or subwoofer. Tone controls offer ±10dB adjustment at 100Hz and 10kHz, with a bypass mode for purist listening. Signal-to-noise ratio is rated at 100dB for line-level inputs, 103dB for digital inputs, and 90dB for the phono stage (all IHF A-weighted).
Outputs & Control
Dual speaker outputs with A/B switching allow connection of two pairs of speakers. A front-panel 6.3mm headphone output is provided for private listening, alongside a front-panel USB Type A socket. RS232 and 12V trigger connections enable integration with custom installation control systems. Rotel Link in/out jacks allow synchronised operation with other Rotel components.
