The REL Acoustics T/7x sits at the centre of the Serie T/x range, positioned between the compact T/5x and the larger T/9x. Where the T/5x relies on a single 8-inch driver and 125 W amplifier for smaller rooms, the T/7x adds a 10-inch passive radiator and doubles the amplifier power to 200 W, extending both output and low-frequency reach without a significant increase in cabinet size. The T/9x steps up further with a 10-inch active driver and 300 W of power. The T/7x occupies the practical middle ground: enough output and extension for rooms of around 100 to 300 square feet, with the speed and control that REL’s high-level connection approach demands.
Driver and Passive Radiator
The T/7x uses an 8-inch (200 mm) long-throw active driver with REL’s FibreAlloy™ cone and an inverted alloy centre cap, mounted on a steel chassis and firing forwards. Below the cabinet, a 10-inch (250 mm) passive radiator of the same FibreAlloy construction fires downwards. Together, the two drivers provide a combined radiating area equivalent to a single 13-inch cone. The active driver handles the direct acoustic output while the passive radiator extends low-frequency reach without requiring a reflex port, keeping the cabinet sealed and the transient response tight.
Amplification
Power comes from a 200 W RMS Class A/B amplifier. REL uses traditional Class A/B transistor amplification throughout the Serie T/x range rather than Class D, prioritising the linearity and current delivery that analogue amplification provides at the low impedances a subwoofer driver presents during heavy excursion. The amplifier drives the 8-inch active driver directly; the passive radiator is mechanically coupled to the cabinet air volume and responds to the pressure changes generated by the active cone.
Connectivity
The T/7x provides three input paths. The high-level input uses a Neutrik Speakon connector with a 10-metre cable included in the box. This connection takes the signal directly from the amplifier’s speaker outputs, preserving the tonal character and timing of the main system. A single RCA low-level input accepts a line-level signal from a preamplifier or processor, and a dedicated LFE RCA input provides a separate connection for the .1 channel in a home cinema system. The LFE input has its own independent volume control, so stereo and surround levels can be set independently without needing to adjust between listening modes.
For cable-free installation, the T/7x is compatible with the optional REL Arrow wireless transmitter, which provides a zero-compression wireless link between source and subwoofer.
Build and Finish
The cabinet is finished in a high gloss white lacquer and sits on logoed aluminium feet. The T/7x is available in High Gloss White and Piano Gloss Black. Full electronic protection covers DC fault, output short circuit, and REL’s Electronic Set Safe system.
