Released in 1976, Ramones is the debut studio album by the Ramones and one of the founding records of punk rock. Its fourteen short, fast songs stripped rock and roll back to its essentials and set a template that countless punk and alternative bands would follow.
The Album
Produced by Craig Leon and recorded in just seven days, the album runs to a little over 29 minutes across fourteen tracks, among them "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend". Although it was not a commercial success on release, peaking at number 111 on the Billboard 200, its influence on the music that followed has been immense. The sleeve photograph of the four band members against a New York brick wall, taken by Roberta Bayley, has become one of the most recognisable images in rock.
