Radiohead - In Rainbows [180g] (LP) Vinyl

In Rainbows is the seventh studio album by Radiohead, self-released as a pay what you want download on 10 October 2007 and issued at retail on vinyl by XL Recordings in December of that year. It was the band's first release after their recording contract with EMI ended with Hail to the Thief, and the download experiment drew international attention as the first of its kind by a major act.

The retail release topped the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, and by October 2008 the album had sold more than three million copies worldwide. It was the best selling vinyl album of 2008. At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards it won Best Alternative Music Album, and Rolling Stone has since placed it in its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Album

Writing and recording began at the band's Oxfordshire studio in March 2005. Sessions with the producer Spike Stent proved unsuccessful and were discarded, and Radiohead re-enlisted their long standing producer Nigel Godrich. The album was recorded in the country houses Halswell House and Tottenham House, at the Hospital Club in London and at the band's own studio. The lyrics are less political and more personal than on earlier Radiohead records, and on the review aggregate site Metacritic the album holds a rating of 88 out of 100 from 42 reviews, indicating universal acclaim.

This Pressing

This is the XL Recordings LP, catalogue number XLLP 324, pressed on 180g heavyweight black vinyl playing at 33 1/3 RPM and manufactured in Europe. The complete ten track album runs across two sides. The album was mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering, with the original lacquers cut at Abbey Road Studios.

The single sleeve carries Stanley Donwood's artwork with a matte finish, and the record is housed in a printed inner sleeve with the lyrics and credit notes.
