The QED Screwloc 4mm Banana Plugs are a solder-free speaker cable termination from QED, one of the UK’s most established cable specialists. Sold as a pack of four (two red, two black), they provide a secure, colour-coded connection between amplifier and speaker binding posts.
Screwloc Termination
Each plug uses QED’s twin Screwloc mechanism — two internal screws clamp the bare cable conductor firmly in place without soldering, making installation straightforward and repeatable. The clamp suits cable diameters up to 3.25 mm, covering the vast majority of speaker cables on the market.
Forte Contact Design
The business end of the plug is QED’s Forte spring-loaded blade. Designed to maximise contact area across the wide tolerance range encountered in 4 mm amplifier and speaker sockets, the Forte blade applies uniform insertion force whether the socket is tight or loose. The result is a consistent, low-resistance connection regardless of equipment.
Construction
The plug body is machined from brass with a cross-sectional area approximately double that of the connected cable, minimising the connector’s contribution to overall circuit resistance. A 24 kt gold plating is applied to all contact surfaces — gold offers resistivity nearly as low as copper while resisting the oxidation that degrades unplated connections over time. The outer barrel is moulded in colour-coded ABS plastic (red for positive, black for negative) for quick identification during installation.
