The QED QX16/4 PE Outdoor Speaker Cable sits within QED's Professional installation range, designed specifically for permanent outdoor and direct-burial applications where standard PVC or LSZH-jacketed cables would degrade over time. The polyethylene outer sheath is both water resistant and UV resistant, allowing the cable to be buried directly without additional conduit protection.
Construction
The QX16/4 is a four-conductor cable using 16 AWG (30/0.26 stranded) copper conductors with a stranded diameter of 1.64mm per conductor. The four cores are colour-coded red, black, white, and green for easy identification during installation. The black PE outer jacket gives the cable an outside diameter of 7.20mm and a weight of 98 kg/km.
The four-conductor configuration makes the QX16/4 suitable for bi-wiring a single speaker run or running two separate speaker zones through a single cable pull. The conductor resistance of 13.3 Ω/km keeps signal losses low over the extended runs typical of outdoor and multi-room installations.
Installation
Supplied on a 300m reel, the cable is sequentially metre-marked with a countdown indicator, making it straightforward to measure and track cable lengths during installation without a separate measuring tool. The PE jacket meets ISO 4892-2 UV resistance standards and is RoHS2 compliant.
QX16 Range
The QX16 range is available in three jacket types to suit different installation environments. The PVC version offers a flame-retardant sheath for standard indoor installations. The LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) version is specified for environments where low smoke emission is required in the event of fire. This PE Outdoor version is engineered for direct burial and exposed outdoor runs where UV and moisture resistance are essential. All three share the same 16 AWG conductor specification and are available in both two-core (QX16/2) and four-core (QX16/4) configurations.
