The QED QX16/2 LSZH is a professional-grade 2-core installation speaker cable from QED's Professional range, designed for commercial and residential installations where fire safety regulations demand Low Smoke Zero Halogen cabling. It shares the same high-purity copper conductor design as the QX16/2 PVC but replaces the standard PVC jacket with an LSZH-rated sheath, making it suitable for use in enclosed spaces and risers where building regulations prohibit halogenated materials.
Conductor Design
Each core uses a 16 AWG stranded conductor built from 30 strands of 0.25mm high-purity copper. The resulting stranded diameter of 1.57mm delivers a conductor resistance of 13.3 Ω/km — a figure that keeps signal losses low across the extended cable runs typical of custom installation work. The two cores are insulated with colour-coded red and black sheaths for straightforward polarity identification during termination.
LSZH Jacket
The pink LSZH outer jacket is fully certificated to IEC 61034-1:2005, IEC 61034-2:2005, IEC 60332-1:2004, and IEC 60754-2:1991. In the event of a fire, it produces minimal smoke and no toxic halogen gases — a critical safety requirement in commercial buildings, apartment blocks, and any installation that must meet current fire safety building regulations. The pink colour distinguishes LSZH cable from the white PVC variant at a glance on the job site.
Installation Features
The cable is sequentially metre-marked with a countdown system, allowing the installer to see at a glance how much cable remains on the reel without measuring. At 6.20mm outer diameter and 58 kg/km, the QX16/2 LSZH is manageable for pulling through conduit and trunking while maintaining a large cross-sectional area for its 16 AWG rating.
QX16 Range
QED's QX16 professional installation speaker cable is available in three jacket types to suit different installation environments. The PVC version (white jacket) is intended for general-purpose installations where LSZH cabling is not mandated. The LSZH version (pink jacket) meets fire safety regulations for enclosed spaces and commercial buildings. A PE (polyethylene) version with a black jacket is also available for outdoor and direct-burial applications.
