Performance sits at the heart of the QED cable range, above Connect and below Reference and Signature. J2P is QED's shorthand for jack to phono: a single lead with a 3.5 mm stereo minijack at one end and a pair of RCA phono plugs at the other, so a phone, tablet, laptop or portable player can feed a conventional hi-fi amplifier. It belongs to the rebuilt 13-strong Performance range QED launched on 1 October 2026.
Designed for Modern Sources
QED calls the 3.5 mm connection the bridge between personal devices and traditional hi-fi systems. Analogue signals are vulnerable at that point: electrical interference, crosstalk and noise can all affect what eventually reaches the amplifier, and the lead bundled in the box with a device is rarely engineered to resist any of it. Performance J2P is designed to preserve the signal throughout its journey.
Better Channel Separation
Left and right channels run in individually dual-screened 99.999% oxygen-free copper conductor pairs, screened with a tinned OFC braid. Keeping the channels properly isolated helps improve stereo separation while reducing susceptibility to external interference, giving a cleaner pathway between source device and amplifier.
Low-Loss Signal Transfer
A foamed polyethylene dielectric creates a low-loss environment for analogue signals by helping to reduce unwanted capacitance. QED quotes 120 pF/m parallel capacitance, 0.122 Ω/m loop resistance and a dissipation factor of 0.0007 at 10 kHz for the finished cable. The aim, in QED's words, is that the cable preserves the signal rather than colouring it.
Made for Everyday Listening
Portable devices are rarely used in perfect conditions, so the 6 mm cool grey jacket is an ultra-flexible TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), the softer jacket material introduced with the 2026 Performance range, which helps reduce handling noise and stands up to everyday use. The gold-plated 3.5 mm plug has a stepped profile designed to work with modern phone and tablet cases, saving you from removing the case every time you want to listen. Connectors wear the range's silver-grey finish, and QED specifies 24K gold-plated contacts on the new Performance analogue cables.
Where It Fits
QED positions Performance J2P for connecting smartphones and tablets to amplifiers, portable music players to hi-fi systems, laptops to amplifiers or active speakers, desktop listening setups, and any device with a 3.5 mm output feeding stereo RCA inputs. This listing is the 1.5 m length; a 3 m version is also available.
