QED Micro Speaker Cable (Per Metre)

The QED Performance Micro sits at the entry point of QED’s Performance speaker cable range, positioned above the Connect series and below the Performance Original and XT25. Where most entry-level cables sacrifice sound quality for a slim profile, QED designed the Micro to deliver genuine hi-fi performance from a cable small enough to disappear into its surroundings.

Construction

Micro uses a miniature figure-8 configuration with 99.999% oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductors, each with a cross-sectional area of 1.25 mm² (17 AWG). The twin conductors are insulated with a high-performance low-density polyethylene (LDPE) dielectric, chosen to reduce signal energy loss through cable capacitance. The result is a loop resistance of just 0.029 Ω/m and a dissipation factor of 0.002 at 10 kHz — figures that belie the cable’s compact dimensions of 2.4 × 5.0 mm.

Discreet Installation

The flat figure-8 profile is the Micro’s defining practical advantage. It is slim enough to tuck beneath skirting boards, route through tight gaps, and lie flat under carpet without creating a visible ridge. The white PVC outer jacket blends with most wall and skirting finishes, making it effectively invisible in a typical living room installation.

Micro is supplied unterminated and sold per metre, so runs can be cut to the exact length required. For a secure, low-resistance connection at the amplifier and speaker end, QED offer their ABS, Metal, and Mini Airloc banana plug ranges as compatible termination options.

Applications

QED recommend the Micro for bookshelf speaker setups, rear and surround channels in a home cinema system, room-to-room wiring, and compact micro/mini hi-fi systems where a full-size cable run would be impractical or unsightly. For longer runs to front or main speakers, QED’s thicker Performance Original or XT25 may be a better match, but for short to medium distances the Micro’s 1.25 mm² conductors provide ample current-carrying capacity.
